What is the "Society for Family Research in Franconia" doing?

The Society which was founded in 1921 has made it its business to promote and maintain genealogical research in all its branches on a scientific basis. It is mainly financed by membership fees and donations. The operational field of the Society comprises mainly the area of the Bavarian administrative districts Upper, Middle and Lower Franconia (see map), but also the neighbouring regions in Upper Palatinate and Baden-Wuerttemberg. Its scope of activities includes research on families, emigrants, expatriates and Huguenots as well as the corporative and professional system. The Society which is located in Nuremberg regularly publishes scientific papers, books and other publications. It organizes genealogical evenings, lectures, guided tours and excursions. It maintains a library and genealogical archives. Last but not least it gives its members advice on their genealogical research work and also cooperates with other associations of a similar type. The Society abstains from any form of politics. It currently has about 1100 members at home and abroad.

The GFF is a member of the "Deutsche Arbeitsgemeinschaft genealogischer Verbaende e.V." = DAGV (German Working Group of Genealogical Associations e.V.).
