(Codex Vindobonensis 7757 of the National Library of Vienna)
Georg Kuhr and Gerhard Bauer
With an introduction by Gustav Reingrabner. Nuremberg 1992. 651 pages, 4 pictures, 3 map sketches.

In his introduction Gustav Reingrabner gives an overview of the ecclesiastical situation in the archduchy of Austria beyond Enns in the time between 1576 and 1660 thereby placing the so-called register in its historical context. The focus of the book, however, is on the full text of the "Codex Vindobonensis 7757". It is structured by parishes or subsidiaries, followed in each case by the names of the parish priests, the designation of the administration or authority and finally by the names of more than 22,000 inhabitants of the Waldviertel. All persons stated in the "Nomenclatura" are recorded in a list with their last names arranged in alphabetical order. Additionally, the volume contains a statistical investigation comparing the frequency of certain first names between Franconia and the Waldviertel.

Das Reichssteuerregister von 1497 der Reichsstadt Nürnberg (und der Reichspflege Weißenburg)
(The imperial tax register of 1497 of the imperial city of Nuremberg and the imperial custody of Weissenburg)

Peter Fleischmann
Nuremberg 1993, 468 pages, 48 tables.

This register lists the names of 5,761 households in 809 villages. The particular value of this imperial tax register, however, is not only the comprehensive knowledge of the names of all villeins, but also the structure of the Nuremberg impact on the rural area. As a statistical source the register provides information on the extent of the population in the rural area and in the city of Nuremberg. It allows a close look into the organization of the captainships in Nuremberg, in the various municipal districts and in the rural area.
